When we think of celebrities, we might think of people that are self-centered and elitist. ANd, while that may be the case for some Hollywood elite, it’s definitely not the case for all. Take Ashton Kutcher for example, instead of spending his time on exotic vacations with his wife and former co-star, Mila Kunis, or buying things he doesn’t really need he’s spending his days defending children that need his help the most.
He has decided to speak out about their plight, and we can all get involved to save these poor kids.
Ashton claims to have found his true life calling when he learned about the horrific world of child sex trafficking. Once he heard the stories, the abuse, and the conditions, these boys and girls have to endure every day, day in and day out he decided to turn his attention to stop it any way he could.
He’s using every platform possible to get the word out, so when the Today Show invited him for an interview, he brought up his personal mission to save these children. Katie Lee Gifford asked if she could pray about it for him, his response to her is perfect:
So when the Today Show invited Ashton on for an interview, he made a point to bring up his personal mission to save these children. As soon as Kathie Lee Gifford asked what they could pray for him about, he came back with the perfect response.
“You know what you can pray for me about? I’ve got something.
I made a pledge that I was going to start fighting human trafficking. I started a foundation called ‘Thorn’ with my ex-wife, and we’re building digital tools to combat human trafficking.
So basically, the purchase and commerce of human trafficking are happening online, just like everything else now. We’re building digital tools to fight back against it.”
Ashton told both Kathie Lee and Hoda that he felt devoted to these children.
“I said to myself: I don’t want to live in a world where these things are happening, and I’m not doing anything about them.”
We’re happy to hear that Ashton and his ex-wife Demi Moore teamed up together to use their fame and fortunes to raise awareness. They started an organization while they were still married to help eliminate child trafficking and online child pornography permanently and they are still at it today.
“We’ve built a tool to help law enforcement prioritize their caseload, recover victims and find traffickers. We’ve found, identified and recovered over 6,000 trafficking victims this year. We’ve found and identified over 2,000 traffickers. My next commitment [is]… I’m going to eliminate child pornography from the Internet.”
Ashton could’ve easily ignored this plight, it will never likely affect him personally, but instead, he decided to get involved in a big way. You can learn more about what you can do to help by visiting his organization’s website, Thorn. Every little bit can make a big difference for these kids.
