Husband plants thousands of pink flowers outside home for his blind wife to smell

A man has spent two years creating a carpet of flowers for his blind wife to smell and it’s attracting thousands of visitors to their home.

For over 30 years Mr and Mrs Kuroki, a farming couple in the Shintomi town of Japan, worked and lived on their dairy farm.

They woke up early to herd 60 cows every day, raised their two children and dreamt of travelling the country when they retire, Rocket News 24 reports.

But when Mrs Kuroki suddenly lost her eyesight due to a complication from diabetes, she was left devastated and reclusive in their home.

In an effort to cheer her up, Mr Kuroki wanted to find a way to encourage more people visit them.

He stumbled upon a pink shibazakura flower in their garden and it occurred to him that you don’t only need to see flowers to experience them – they even smell beautiful.

He spent two years preparing the land and planting seeds.

Now, more than a decade later, the home has attracts visitors from surrounding towns. In spring, they have a footfall of about 7,000 people a day.

And Mrs Kuroki is often spotted walking around the land with a beaming smile.
